A letter from John Penrose MP on this unexpected election…

Well that was unexpected……….! As I’m sure you’re aware by now, Theresa May has called a General Election for 8th June 2017. Almost no-one was predicting it but, with two years of tough Brexit discussions and global trade negotiations on the horizon, I think she’s right that we’ll need a strong Prime Minister with a stable Government, underpinned by a fresh democratic mandate to take us through the challenges ahead.

And, if you haven’t registered to vote, please get it done soon. The deadline is May 22nd, so you’ve still got a bit of time. You can call the Council on 01934 888888 or do it online at: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote But, as the saying goes, no vote means no voice……

We’ve made a lot of progress in Weston, Worle and villages over the last few years, but there’s more to do. Here’s what I’m committed to delivering to the people of Weston and the villages if you decide to re-elect me for another 5 years:

  • More investment in a stronger local economy.
  • J21 and Weston seafront are miles better, but the job isn’t finished yet…

  • Keep our countryside beautiful.
  • Build ‘up not out’ in urban areas, to stop housing sprawl in the countryside

  • Fewer addicts, safer streets.
  • A cleaner, safer Weston is better for residents, visitors & business investors too.

  • Fairer funding for local schools.
  • We get more cash than before, but still less than official figures say we should.

  • Best Brexit.
  • Whether we voted ‘Leave’ or ‘Remain’ last year, it’s time to unite to find the best, most practical deal.

If you agree, I hope you’ll support me on June 8th. If you want to get involved with election campaigning you’d be very welcome too (it can be a lot of fun, I promise!); if you’re on Facebook then just join the Campaign Group here or, if Facebook isn’t your thing, just hit ‘reply’ to this email and my team will send details of how to get involved.

Yours Sincerely,
