We were looking forward to an exciting evening in February when we had a Dinner planned at the Grand Atlantic Hotel with Jacob Rees-Mogg MP as our Guest Speaker. We were not disappointed.
Firstly, the venue lived up to expectations, the service was excellent, and the food was lovely. (And – parking is free!) Secondly, Jacob Rees-Mogg did not disappoint.
He said he was prepared to talk and answer questions all night if we wished and explained how his parents used to come to Weston quite often and stay in this hotel, and how he loved to see the sea and go down to the beach, and even have a ride on the donkeys.
Naturally he talked about Brexit, and was so pleased that the Tory Party have forgotten their differences and come together on the subject. He also killed the rumours that he would be the next Speaker, quite simply because the Speaker has to be neutral but Jacob has strong feelings, especially about a subject like Brexit. Best of all, Jacob was very complimentary about our John Penrose, which made John blush.
Jacob was accompanied by his wife Helena who is expecting their sixth baby. They were both very friendly and went around the tables talking to as many diners as possible. We did have a large turn-out of attendees and the evening was profitable, so there is no doubt that the event was a great success.
